Cosy, delicious and also good for the environment: at this café in Nordend, the Iyigün couple simply take care of everything. "I feel it's an absolute necessity to do my bit for climate protection," says Lena Iyigün. And that's why in the cozy neighborhood café in Nordend, which she runs together with her husband Mehmet, you not only get a very tasty breakfast and good sandwiches, soups and salads or cakes for the rest of the day. You can also enjoy all of this with an extra clear conscience: Lena Iyigün is chairwoman of the "Climate Gastronomy Initiative", which helps restaurants in Frankfurt to calculate – and improve – their own carbon footprint. The Glauburg Café only uses green electricity and mainly serves vegetarian and vegan dishes; butter in particular is now often replaced by plant-based alternatives. "It's just a small recipe adjustment that doesn't hurt anyone and has such a big impact on climate protection," explains Iyigün. Her initiative was awarded a top place in the Hessian Tourism Prize in 2023.

Und darum bekommst du in dem gemütlichen Nachbarschafts-Café im Nordend, das sie gemeinsam mit ihrem Mann Mehmet betreibt, nicht nur ein sehr leckeres Frühstück und den Rest des Tages gute Sandwiches, Suppen und Salate oder Kuchen. Sondern du kannst all das auch noch mit extra gutem Gewissen genießen: Lena Iyigün ist Vorstandsvorsitzende der „Initiative Klimagastronomie“, die Gastronomiebetrieben in Frankfurt dabei hilft, ihre eigene Klimabilanz zu errechnen – und zu verbessern. Im Glauburg Café gibt’s nur Ökostrom und überwiegend vegetarische und vegane Gerichte; vor allem Butter wird inzwischen gerne durch pflanzliche Alternativen ersetzt. „Das ist nur eine kleine Rezeptanpassung, die niemandem wehtut und beim Klimaschutz so viel bewirkt“, erklärt Iyigün. Für ihre Initiative gab’s 2023 einen vorderen Platz beim Hessischen Tourismuspreis.
