About: Alter Haferkasten

Seinen Namen hat dieses Restaurant noch aus der Zeit, als die Kutscher in Neu-Isenburg Pause machten und ihre Pferde in den Ställen nebenan ihre Portion Hafer bekamen – und das war schon vor rund 300 Jahren. In den 1960er Jahren eröffnete ein Paar aus Bergamo in diesem Haus eines der ersten italienischen Restaurants in ganz Deutschland, bedient wurde damals im Smoking und mit weißen Handschuhen. So förmlich geht es im gemütlichen, hellen Gastraum des Alten Haferkastens heute zwar nicht mehr zu, aber die Küche ist noch immer mediterran und exzeptionell gut. In zweiter Generation führt Francesco Pugliese das Haus. Die Familie hat ihre Wurzeln in Kalabrien; sein Vater Saverio etablierte das Restaurant ab 1980 als überregional bekannte Adresse für gehobene italienische Küche. In den 2000er Jahren bekochte er sogar vier Jahre lang die deutsche Fußball-Nationalmannschaft.

This restaurant takes its name from the time when coachmen took a break in Neu-Isenburg and their horses got their portion of oats in the stables next door - and that was around 300 years ago. In the 1960s, a couple from Bergamo opened one of the first Italian restaurants in the whole of Germany in this building, with service in tuxedos and white gloves. Although things are no longer as formal in the cozy, bright dining room of the Alter Haferkasten today, the cuisine is still Mediterranean and exceptionally good. Francesco Pugliese is the second generation to run the restaurant. The family has its roots in Calabria; his father Saverio established the restaurant as a nationally renowned address for fine Italian cuisine from 1980 onwards. In the 2000s, he even cooked for the German national soccer team for four years.
