About: GrünGürtel Frankfurt

Schattige Wälder, Wiesen mit Kunst und sogar eine seltene Düne: Zu Fuß oder mit dem Rad entdeckst du im GrünGürtel immer neue Parks und Landschaften. Der natürliche, rund 64 Kilometer lange GrünGürtel rings um den Stadtkern ist so etwas wie Frankfurts Lunge und ein beliebtes Naherholungsgebiet. Er umfasst Wiesen und Wälder, Felder und Gärten, Parks und Auen, dazu Wald- und Wasserspielplätze für Kinder und sogar knapp 100 Kilometer Reitwege. Ein herrlicher Ort, um deinen Picknickkorb auszupacken ist etwa die Schwanheimer Wiese im Südosten. Von dort aus kannst du auch zu den kuriosen Werken des Künstlers Friedrich Karl Waechter rüber schlendern: der Eiche mit Monsterkindern, überdimensionalen Eicheln aus Holz, und dem Struwwelpeter-Baum, einer Kopfweide mit Glubschaugen und natürlicher Wuschelfrisur. Beide sind Teil der „Komischen Kunst“ der Neuen Frankfurter Schule, die man noch in anderen Teilen des GrünGürtels vorfindet. Wenn dir nach mehr Bewegung ist, kannst du über den Bohlenweg in der Schwanheimer Düne schlendern, in der Silbergras wuchert und Eidechsen huschen. Ein besonderes Erlebnis, denn sie ist eine der sehr seltenen Binnendünen Europas. Ganz Sportliche erkunden den gesamten GrünGürtel auf dem Rundwander- oder Radweg, der über den Stadtwald im Süden, die Höhen des Berger Rückens und durchs Niddatal und die Kräutergärten in Oberrad führt.

Shady forests, meadows with art and even a rare dune: you can always discover new parks and landscapes on foot or by bike in the green belt. The natural green belt around the city centre, which is around 64 kilometres long, is something like Frankfurt's lungs and a popular local recreation area. It includes meadows and forests, fields and gardens, parks and meadows, as well as forest and water playgrounds for children and even almost 100 kilometres of bridle paths. A wonderful place to unpack your picnic basket is the Schwanheimer Wiese in the south-east. From there, you can also stroll over to the curious works of the artist Friedrich Karl Waechter: the oak tree with monster children, oversized acorns made of wood, and the Struwwelpeter tree, a willow tree with googly eyes and a natural fuzzy hairstyle. Both are part of the "Comic Art" of the New Frankfurt School, which can also be found in other parts of the GrünGürtel, and if you feel like more exercise, you can stroll along the boardwalk in the Schwanheimer Düne, where silver grass grows and lizards scurry about. This is a special experience, as it is one of the very rare inland dunes in Europe. The more sporty can explore the entire GrünGürtel on the circular hiking or cycling trail, which leads across the city forest in the south, the heights of the Berger Ridge and through the Nidda Valley and the herb gardens in Oberrad.
