About: Jazzkeller, Jazz cellar

Legendary for more than 70 years: even Louis Armstrong performed at the Jazzkeller. To this day, the greats of the scene are celebrated here as well as newcomers. As the first private jazz club in the whole of Europe, the Kellerclub is still considered one of the top jazz venues in Germany. Founded by trumpeter Karl "Carlo" Bohländer in 1952 under the name "domicile du jazz", it quickly achieved international fame. Well-known musicians such as Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong and Dizzy Gillespie performed here, as did Frankfurt's music celebrities, such as the brothers Albert and Emil Mangelsdorff. Many newcomers proved themselves in the underground vault and later became famous worldwide. The long-time owner Eugen Hahn, who died in 2020, later introduced disco nights and opened up the Jazzkeller beyond the US and European scene by inviting Latin American and Asian musicians to the "Keller". A cosmopolitan mix that the current Jazzkeller team has successfully continued.

Als erster privater Jazzclub in ganz Europa gilt der Kellerclub bis heute als eine der TopJazzlocations in Deutschland. Vom Trompeter Karl „Carlo“ Bohländer 1952 unter dem Namen „domicile du jazz“ gegründet, erlangte er rasch internationale Berühmtheit. Bekannte Musiker wie Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong oder Dizzy Gillespie traten ebenso auf wie die Frankfurter Musikprominenz, etwa die Brüder Albert und Emil Mangelsdorff. Viele Newcomer haben sich in dem unterirdischen Gewölbe bewiesen und wurden später weltweit berühmt. Der 2020 verstorbene, langjährige Inhaber Eugen Hahn führte später Disconächte ein und öffnete den Jazzkeller über die US-amerikanische und europäische Szene hinaus, indem er auch lateinamerikanische und asiatische Musiker*innen in den „Keller“ lud. Eine weltoffene Mischung, die das heutige Jazzkeller-Team erfolgreich fortsetzt.
