Als Anfang 2024 Hanaus große Kaufhof-Filiale am Marktplatz geschlossen wurde, endete ein Kapitel Stadtgeschichte. 1929 hatte der erste Kaufhof-Vorläufer in Hanau eröffnet, 1957 wurde der heutige Bau am Marktplatz eröffnet. Zum 130. Geburtstag des Konzerns sangen 2009 Hunderte Hanauer*innen vor der Filiale ein Ständchen. Doch gleichzeitig begann auch ein neues Kapitel: Die Stadt selbst übernahm das nun leerstehende Gebäude. Und konnte im Frühjahr 2025 mit dem Stadthof ein „neues Zuhause für innovative Geschäftsideen und Ladenkonzepte“ eröffnen.
Heißt konkret: Neben Mode- oder Schmuckboutiquen, Spielzeugläden, gastronomischen Angeboten und Ausstellungen findest du im Stadthof auch eine Bühne, auf der regelmäßig Diskussionen oder Performances geboten werden. Und mit dem Freiraum eine Fläche, auf der Hanauer*innen zum Beispiel ihren Verein, ihr Unternehmen oder ihre Kunst vorstellen können. Ein klares Zeichen: Hier geht’s nicht nur ums Konsumieren, die Stadt möchte sich hier in ihrer ganzen Vielfalt zeigen und zu Begegnungen und zum Mitmachen einladen.

When Hanau’s large Kaufhof store on Marktplatz closed in early 2024, a chapter in the city’s history came to an end. The first Kaufhof predecessor had opened in Hanau in 1929, and the current building on Marktplatz opened in 1957. In 2009, to mark the company’s 130th anniversary, hundreds of Hanau residents sang a serenade in front of the store. But at the same time, a new chapter began: The city itself took over the now-vacant building. And in the spring of 2025, it opened the Stadthof, a “new home for innovative business ideas and retail concepts.”
