Der abwechslungsreiche Weg führt zunächst nach Norden am Waldrand entlang, bevor er in einen alten Buchenwald eintaucht. Nach einem leichten Anstieg erreicht man den „Hohlestein“, der auf einem bewaldeten Gipfel thront. Eine Hinweistafel informiert vor Ort über diese besondere Basaltformation. Weiter geht es durch die Feldmark mit einigen sehr schönen Fernblicken. Am Ende passiert man noch den „Katzenstein“, der die Kuppe einer kleinen Waldinsel bildet. Info: Kurz nach dem Hohlestein trifft man auf den Naturparkrundweg 8 (5,5km), der das Dörnbergmassiv umrundet und die Verbindung zum Dörnberggebiet darstellt.
