Der jetzige Verein Kulturscheune Herborn e.V. wurde im November 1990 als Herborner Heimatspiele e.V. gegründet und am 12. März 2020 von der Mitgliederversammlung umbenannt. Nach knapp 40 Jahren des „unorganisierten Theaters“ in Herborn hatte man seinerzeit den Schritt gewagt, um sich als Verein zusammenzuschließen und der Arbeit der Herborner Theaterschaffenden einen strukturellen Rahmen zu geben. Seitdem hat sich die KuSch fest im Vereinsleben der Stadt etabliert und ist inzwischen viel mehr als eine Gruppe Theaterbegeisterter. Denn seit man im Jahr 2004 nach jahrelangem Suchen nicht nur eine Heimstatt für den Verein gefunden hat, sondern mit der KulturScheune auch eine Spielstätte und Event-Location geschaffen hat, die durchaus mit anderen Kleinkunst-Theatern in Hessen und darüber hinaus konkurrieren kann, hat sich der Verein völlig neu ausgerichtet. In den vergangenen Jahren hat sich die Mitgliederzahl vervielfacht, inzwischen gibt es sechs eigene Ensembles und man deckt mit den Eigenproduktionen ein breites Spektrum ab. Zugleich tritt der Verein aber auch als Veranstalter auf und bringt jedes Jahr eine Vielzahl externer Künstler nach Herborn.
The current association Kulturscheune Herborn e.V. was founded in November 1990 as Herborner Heimatspiele e.V. and was renamed by the general assembly on March 12, 2020. After nearly 40 years of "unorganized theater" in Herborn, the decision was made at that time to take the step of forming a club to provide a structural framework for the work of Herborn's theater creators. Since then, KuSch has firmly established itself in the club life of the city and has become much more than a group of theater enthusiasts. Since in 2004, after years of searching, not only a home for the club was found but also a venue and event location with the KulturScheune that can certainly compete with other small arts theaters in Hesse and beyond, the club has completely reoriented itself. In recent years, the number of members has multiplied; meanwhile, there are six own ensembles and it covers a wide spectrum with its own productions. At the same time, the association also acts as an organizer and brings a multitude of external artists to Herborn every year.
