The building at Mauerstraße 8 was constructed in 1877/78 as the commander's residence for the 1st Prussian Non-Commissioned Officer School, which was relocated to Weilburg. The plans were created by Building Advisor Max Spinn, and the construction management was overseen by Wilhelm Thempel. The construction was initiated by the Weilburg plaster master Ernst Thempel, who, in light of the lack of accommodations, arranged for housing for officers at his own expense. After the relocation of the Non-Commissioned Officer School to the "New Barracks" in 1913, the building was used by the police command; at times, it also housed deaconesses from the nursing association. Architecturally, it is a representative, villa-like structure of the Neo-Renaissance style. Mansonry segments, various window shapes, a magnificent main cornice, and a crest featuring the Weilburg city coat of arms characterize its appearance. The neighboring building at Mauerstraße 6 was constructed in 1881/82 as a residential and commercial building. The city of Weilburg acquired it in 1994 and connected it with house No. 8 to form an expanded town hall, which was inaugurated in 1995. Today, the tourist information center is located on the ground floor.
Das Gebäude in der Mauerstraße 8 wurde 1877/78 als Kommandeurswohnung der nach Weilburg verlegten 1. preußischen Unteroffiziersvorschule errichtet. Die Pläne stammen von Baurat Max Spinn, die Bauleitung hatte Wilhelm Thempel inne. Initiiert wurde der Bau durch den Weilburger Tünchermeister Ernst Thempel, der angesichts fehlender Unterkünfte auf eigene Kosten Wohnraum für Offiziere schaffen ließ. Nach dem Umzug der Unteroffiziersvorschule in die „Neue Kaserne“ im Jahr 1913 wurde das Gebäude von der Polizeikommandatur genutzt; zeitweise waren hier auch Diakonissen des Krankenpflegevereins untergebracht. Architektonisch handelt es sich um einen repräsentativen, villenartigen Bau der Neurenaissance. Werksteingliederungen, unterschiedliche Fensterformen, ein prächtiges Hauptgesims sowie ein Aufsatz mit dem Weilburger Stadtwappen prägen das Erscheinungsbild. Das Nachbargebäude Mauerstraße 6 entstand 1881/82 als Wohn- und Geschäftshaus. Die Stadt Weilburg erwarb es 1994 und verband es mit dem Haus Nr. 8 zum erweiterten Rathaus, das 1995 eingeweiht wurde. Im Erdgeschoss befindet sich heute die Touristeninformation.
