The tower behind the Marburg Landgrave Castle reveals its former use with its name "Witches' Tower". It is part of a dark chapter in Marburg's history - the witch hunt. Originally built as a gun tower, the building served as a prison for 300 years. In 12 cold, dark cells, surrounded by four-meter-thick walls, the inmates, including alleged witches, waited for their trials. The small barred windows are still clearly visible today. Access to the tower takes you via a small external staircase, from which you have an extraordinary view of the northwest side of the Landgrave Castle.
