Earth, mud, and dust: These words refer to the soil on which we stand in the Westerwald, in the Lahntal, and in the Taunus. This soil also serves, when it is fertile, for the cultivation of grains or potatoes, our essential foodstuffs. If the soil is not so fertile, perhaps only grass thrives here, which feeds cattle and provides local meat or milk. So, the soil is an important raw material for our life! The fact that it is finite and worthy of protection will also be explained in this lecture. And from which rocks, which are also raw materials for other things, does soil actually develop? The speaker, diploma geographer Michael Volkwein from the GEOPARK Westerwald-Lahn-Taunus e. V., will answer these and other questions, show fantastic photos of the raw material occurrences in the Geopark, and give tips on how to experience all of this on your next day trip.
